Integrated Services Digital Network ISDN

(1) An ISDN line is a Digital phone line that can transmit data, video, and voice. (ISDN lines are "point-to-point" connections from the telephone company to the computer user.) (2) Digital Network with higher speed than found on the traditional telephone network. Even though ISDN uses existing phone lines, it does require specialized equipment. Because the network is all digital it can easily send voice, data, and video over the SAME line simultaneously. (3) Switched Network providing end-to-end digital connection for simultaneous Transmission of voice and/or Data over multiple multiplexed communication channels and employing transmission that con-forms to internationally-defined standards. ISDN is considered to be the basis for a "universal network" that can sup-port almost any type of communications device or service.
