Multimode Fiber Optic

A Multimode Fiber optic Cable is a Fiber Cable with a Core diameter larger than the Wavelength of Light transmitted. They allow for many Modes of light to travel down the core.

Multimode fibers are optical fibers that are designed to carry multiple light rays, or modes, at the SAME time. This means that they can carry more Data than a single Mode fiber. Multimode Fiber optic Cables are much more effective for communicating over shorter distances.

Multimode fiber optic cables generally have core diameters of 50 µm or 62.5 µm.
