Optic Cable

An optic cable is Cable made of thin strands of pure Glass over which Digital information can be transmitted. The Transmission distances vary according to the specifications and size of each optical cable.

An optic cable is comprised of the following components:

  • Core – The center of the Fiber where light/data is transmitted.
  • Cladding – The material that surrounds the core. Traps Light in Core and protects against signal loss.
  • Buffer Coating – Protective coating applied directly to the fiber.

An optic cable has many advantages over other kinds of cable. These advantages include:

  • Light weight
  • Small diameter
  • Higher bandwidth
  • Use less power
  • Non-flammable
  • EMI and RFI resistant
  • Better suited for Data transmission
  • Less signal degradation
