A fiber optic network is a network, such as a WAN or LAN, where devices and Network components are connected by Fiber optic cable.

Examples of an optic network include:

• LANs – Local Area Networks are computer networks covering a small area, such as a building. They can be connected to other LANs. With LANs there is a limit on the number of users, but the upside is that they have very high Data transfer rates.
• MANs – Metropolitan Area Networks are high-speed networks designed for cities. MANs are larger than LANs, but smaller than WANs.
• WANs – Wide Area Networks cover a large geographic area and are comprised of two or more LANs. The largest WAN is the Internet.
