PMD Polarization Mode Dispersion
PMD is an effect where an electric field's direction, or polarization, splits into two components that propagate at different speeds, causing the pulse to spread.
Optical Fiber signals are carried by utlrashort Pulses of light. Initially, in each pulse, the light’s electric field follows a given direction. Because the Optical Fiber is not perfectly circular, the electric field splits into the two components.
