Optical sources based on superluminescence.

Superluminescent sources are broadband Light sources based on superluminescence. A superluminescent Source has a very low temporal coherence. It contains a Laser Gain medium which is excited in order to emit and then amplify fluorescence light. According to the large emission Bandwidth the temporal Coherence is very low. This makes such devices interesting for applications such as optical coherence tomography, device characterization, gyroscopes, and fiber-optic sensors.
