VECSELS
Vertical External Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers
Vertical external cavity surface-emitting lasers are a type of Semiconductor Laser Diode that emits its coherent Energy vertically.
VECSELs are unlike VCSELS in that they have external cavities and their arrangement makes it possible for a larger area of the device to be pumped and therefore produces more power. VECSELs have one Bragg mirror on their chip as opposed to two Bragg mirrors as is the case with VCSELs. VECSELs have the ability to cover a wide Range of wavelengths (approximately 660-2550nm).
